Mr. Iyami (ミスターイヤミ) is a spin-off of Osomatsu-kun by Fujio Akatsuka and Mitsutoshi Furuya. It consists of two one-shot stories featuring Iyami in a more adult setting. These stories were released in 1970 and 1971, in the magazine Big Comic.
The title was previously used for a mini-comic that ran alongside the original "Chibita the Safe-Cracker" chapter in 1965.
Overview[]
Both features are geared towards more mature audiences that had been reading Osomatsu-kun, and solely feature Iyami and events that happen in his personal life.
The art in these features was provided by Mitsutoshi Furuya, who also collaborated on the story. At the time, Furuya had also worked on Bukkare*Dan with Akatsuka, and had taken over the duties of The Genius Bakabon's Old Man.
Characters[]
Iyami[]
The protagonist, who has unfortunate luck. The elements shown with him in these stories would seem to inspire the idea meetings that occurred for the Shonen King run of -kun, which was centered around him.
Kazuko[]
The heroine of the first one-shot, who meets Iyami in the bar. Although it seems like they have fast chemistry, Iyami wakes up to find her gone and is left hopelessly waiting for her to return.
Serialization[]
The serialization schedule of these stories was, as follows:
- "Mr. Iyami" (ミスターイヤミ, Big Comic, July 10, 1970): Iyami falls in love with a woman he meets at a bar, and the two sleep together. Unbeknownst to him, the woman is using him to cheat on her husband and has no intention of going back to Iyami to make their love permanent.
- "Mr. Iyami: Tomorrow Morning" (ミスターイヤミ氏 あしたの朝, Big Comic, January 10, 1971): Iyami works as a cop.
Reprints[]
- Akebono: The first story was included with other assorted late 1960s and early 1970s stories in the "Fujio Akatsuka Complete Works" volume of "Thriller Professor and Mean Professor". The second was recorded as extra content in the "Inspector Oni" Akebono reprint. A "Mr. Iyami" bunko was later released through this same company in 1976.
- Shogakukan: The "Thriller Professor and Mean Professor" and "Inspector Oni" volumes are digitized for the 2002 "Fujio Akatsuka Complete Works" DVD-ROM collection, and contain their respective extra Iyami stories.
There have currently been no reprints of these titles, or an eBook collection with them.
