This Week's Adam and IF (今週のアダムとイフ) was a gag manga by Fujio Akatsuka and Fujio Pro. It was serialized in Womens' Own magazine from 1983 to 1984.
Overview[]
A woman named If-chan takes readers through her adventures with current events related to sex and scandals. This manga, along with This Week's Awful Person and the unreprinted Mean Current Affairs, made up more Akatsuka series in the mold of Gag Guerrilla after its cessation in Weekly Bunshun.
However, her actual involvement in the plots experiences a sharp drop off through later chapters, with her only being seen as delivering the ending punchline for the readers.
Characters[]
If-chan[]
Our initial protagonist. Her design slightly resembles Kazuko from Mr. Iyami, and other women who were used by Mitsutoshi Furuya throughout the early 1970s and on. Although she starts out more proportionate, If's design soon becomes more super-deformed in style, particularly as her role lessens in the series.
Serialization[]
- Womens' Own: August 25/September 1, 1983 merger issue to April 19, 1984
Reprints[]
The title first experienced a form of reprint in the Fujio Akatsuka Complete Works DVD-ROM set in 2002. However, to make it look tankobon-worthy, all margin text and other extraneous material were deleted from the original strips, with the references to If's name happening to go along with them (which can have her seeming nameless to new readers).
There has been no eBook release of the title or other form of reprint since.
